 Green Building

A green home uses less energy, water, and natural resources; creates less waste; and is healthier and more comfortable for the occupants. Benefits of a green home include lower energy and water bills; reduced greenhouse gas emissions; and less exposure to mold, mildew and other indoor toxins. The net cost of owning a green home is comparable to that of owning a conventional home.

Energy StarOur Energy Efficient Standards and Your Custom Home

At Everest, we make a concerted effort to address energy efficiency with our homes.  As energy costs continue to climb we have developed standards for energy efficiency for insulation, doors & windows, heating & ventilation ducts, heating & cooling equipment, lighting, and appliances.  Energy Star homes are 30% more efficient than homes built to standard Idaho code.  They offer increased comfort, lower energy bills, and better indoor air quality.  Your Everest home will meet Energy Star standards, and for a nominal inspection fee your home will come with an Energy Star Certification.

Environmentally Friendly Materials

There are hundreds of green materials to incorporate and use in your home.  Green materials such as hardwood flooring, carpets, paints, stains, doors, countertops, hardware and many other products are available.  Many of these materials are comparably priced to materials that are not considered green and others are you will pay a premium.  We often use materials that are considered green in your home when and where it makes sense.  Our designers are available to help guide you through the many decisions for choosing these products while keeping you on budget.  Visit one of our local green material suppliers below to see a sample of available materials.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.  LEED for Homes is a voluntary rating system that promotes the design and construction of high performance "green" homes.

The process to obtain a LEED certified home can be lengthy and Everest has the resources available to obtain this certification for your custom home.  To learn more about LEED for homes, give us a call or visit the website below.
