Tamarak Resort
The skiing and snowboarding: The $1.5 billion Tamarack Resort opened to great acclaim in the winter of 2004. Tamarack's 7,700-foot summit overlooks Lake Cascade, with a total vertical drop of 2,800 feet. Nine aerial lifts and five surface lifts open up 600 acres of groomed terrain and 1,100 acres of skiable terrain. The trail design is extremely varied for a range of skill and interest levels. Tamarack offers steep mogul runs, cruising runs, powder bowls, terrain parks, even an 18-foot superpipe. Nordic skiers can enjoy 30 kilometers of groomed trails.

The golf: An 18-hole golf course called Osprey Meadows is set among meadows, wetlands, ponderosa pines and aspens at the base of the mountain. Course designer Robert Trent Jones II observed, "The dramatic changes in landscape, and majestic views of the mountains, the meadow and Lake Cascade, qualify Osprey Meadows as one of the finest courses in the Pacific Northwest."

The trails: Tamarack offers an extensive network of mountain biking and hiking trails, including 25 miles of trails developed by the IMBA (International Mountain Biking Association). A short lift to the summit gives you a 360-degree view of Lake Cascade and the surrounding mountains, with an exhilarating downhill ride.

The events: During the spring, summer and fall, Tamarack opens onto 86 miles of shoreline on Lake Cascade and offers rental boats, in addition to guided and instructional services. There are also a kids camp, concert series and whitewater guide services available.
